Results of the Ubuntu Census Survey

|

The Ubuntu Census Survey ran during the period from 16th of May to the
8th of June 2006, whereupon it was frozen for analysis.
The questionnaire
The Ubuntu Census Survey was based on a questionnaire consisting of 5
sections and a total of 65 questions. The 5 sections sought to get
basic statistical data on the Ubuntu community members' personal
profile, computer use and habits, previous F/OSS involvement, Ubuntu
involvement and which channels of communication they use within the
community.
The text of questionnaire can be found here.
Note that this is the text of the second version where a few unlucky
phrasings had been changed and a few extra options have been added to
some of the multiple response questions.
Analysis of the data
The survey attracted more than 330 responses of which around 290 were
complete and valid. These responses were then processed and analyzed
for presentation at the Ubuntu Developer's Summit where it
unfortunately couldn't fit on the agenda. The prepared slides are
instead available here:
Presentation slides [.pdf format]
Presentation slides [Open Document Presentation format]
Open to interpretation
Some sections of the survey allowed for open-ended answers. Some of these can be found here:
"Summing up what you like most about programming"
"What do you dislike about F/OSS?"
Processed survey data
All of the survey data has been processed using SPSS, most of
the statistical data from the survey has been exported to
HTML-format so that interested parties can make the most of the data on
their own. The data is divided in to 5 sections according to the 5
sections of the questionnaire:
Personal Profile Statistics
Computer Use Statistics
F/OSS Involvement Statistics
Ubuntu Involvement Statistics
Community Communication Statistics
